This video is a snippet of the Youth Maculele performance at Capoeira Ijexa’s Kids Batizado and Troca de Cordos 2014.
I hope the children had as much of a good time as we did. Their teachers are still riding that wave of energy created from as we keep calling each other to reflect, talk, and brag. Bottom line is:
WE ARE EXTREMELY PROUD OF THEM AND THEY MAKE IT ALL THAT MUCH MORE WORTH IT!
Personally, I am overwhelmed with gratitude and I feel lucky, blessed, and so forth. Our capoeira community is growing and the evidence lies beyond the amount of children present on Saturday and even more in the quality of their presence. When I began teaching children capoeira a little over four years ago I would have never imagined that there would be this much interest and involvement. I had no clue what I was getting myself into but I am so happy it happened and is still happening as their growth is my growth and vice versa. Thank you parents for your patience and understanding and even more for the opportunity to be apart of your kids’ lives. It is just as enriching for us as it is for them, if not more.
Mestre Urubu sent out a very nice email expressing how pleased he was with the event and the children’s performance as a whole and that is rare. The guest mestre, Mestre Calango, has also called me personally wanting to send his regards to the children as well. He stated that he had not intended to play because of back problems but the kids’ energy was so great that he could not help it. He says there is a lot of potential and he is glad to have witnessed the next generation of capoeira within our capoeira world. Their foundation is solid.
Peace, love, and happy holidays,
